They're actually proud of this, like they improved it somehow.

I’m pretty sure that car was on Jalopnik back in the day.

Of all of the swaps that they COULD have done...12A, 13B, SR20DET, LS, Modular 4.6, Buick 3800...hell, even a GM 3200...
...they chose...the 3100.
They thought the 3100 was a worthy improvement.
I just...on a scale of one to even, I can’t.

It’s a Miata that looks like a Z3 and has the drive train of a 3rd-gen Camaro!? And they want nearly as much for it as a new Miata!?
Even though I’ve seen this before, I still can’t believe this is a thing…

Claims he spent a lot of money but went with an Eagle cam? Good lord.

But it's a "race cam". lol

20K? Why not just buy Z3 in good shape? Hell of a lot of effort to go like, where? I would expect this from a certain class of shade tree mechanic but this looks like someone with real skill put it together.

I guess this was a good learning tool...to do lots of unrelated things....to a cheap donor....maybe?

Eagles’s cams aren’t good, I take it?
I thought their rotating assembly bits were supposed to be alright.

I know, right?
The best part is that, according to Edelbrock’s own website, they don’t even make an intake for that engine, so it’s either custom, not an Edelbrock, or not a 3100.

I wish I could answer in the affirmative sir, but sadly, I believe this gentleman is serious.

I thought it looked familiar as well, but I couldn’t place it.

Maybe options are limited to 3100 motors? There’s just better options out there. Part of me wants to meet the owner of this car, just to see what he’s like. With the Z3 kit & 3100 I’m guessing this car was built in be mid 90's.

I have no idea, dude. I didn’t think anyone made go-fast parts for the 3100. Like every other GM OHV V6, it strikes me as a workhorse engine; not something you’d try and hot rod, especially since it was primarily installed in FF vehicles.
